How to Start an Online Business

There is no magic bullet for how to start an online business. However there are some daily steps that you need to take to make any online business successful.

Step 1 – Create Content Daily

You are going to need to create at least one piece of new content each day. This could be a blog post, a video, a Pinterest graphic, a Facebook post… there are a lot of options. However, you need to be able to commit to a plan. Without content to offer, your business and your brand won’t be able to thrive in the very competitive online economy.

Step 2- Email Daily

You will need to email your list daily. Communicate with the people that follow you. Some of you may choose other forms of communication such as Messenger; however, this needs to be more direct contact with those who have subscribed to you. Maybe it is a direct communication with a Facebook Group. Whatever it is, it shouldn’t just be a social media post. It should be a personal way of communicating with your tribe.

Step 3 – Create Your Product

Here’s the thing…affiliate marketing and resale businesses can work. That said, having your own product is far more profitable. If you are in e-commerce, create a unique bundle instead of just reselling the same product everyone else is selling. If you are in informational sales, find an area of personal expertise and create your own training or case study. Anything you can do to set yourself apart will make a difference.

Step 4 – Study Your Niche

Read every day. Study what other people asking in your niche. Fill that need with answers to their questions or solutions to their problems. This will help you know what is trending and keep your products relevant. Most importantly, you will become an expert in your field, someone whose authority is credible.

Step 5 – Find a Mentor/ Get Coaching

Don’t try to do all of this on your own. At the same time, be careful who you follow. There are a lot of people who are not the most credible and are out to make money with very little regard for others. Another consideration is that quality coaching and mentoring are not free. So you can expect to invest some money in this process of learning how to start an online business. Investing in your education and training is the same as investing in your business and, when done correctly, can actually save you money in the long run.
